This is the announcement for Trustix Secure Linux 2.0 beta 3 nickname Lightning. Being a beta we will not recommend it for production use nor will we maintain it. The goal is that this release is to be swuppable all the way to the final release, but we can not be 100% certain. What we can promise though, is that there will be no major changes between this release and the final product. You will probably not be able to swup-upgrade to it from earlier betas, and it's not recommended due to the major changes in most of the packages. A plain reinstall is recommended. We release this distribution to give you a chance to test and comment on it before it evolves into TSL 2.0. We also wish to thank those who tested and gave us valuable feedback on the previous pre-releases. The main focus of this release is to get a test of the few packages that did not get fully tested in the previous releases. If you run for instance OpenLDAP in a production environment and consider doing so on TSL 2, now is the time to make sure it really works and let us know if it doesn't. Also, if you think our default configuration for your favorite package contains some errors, please let us know. This applies to all services and packages and in particular: * cups. Can you get those .png's to print? * cyrus-imapd. Read that mail! * cyrus-sasl. Authenticate those users! * iproute. Can you do those insane routings? * iptables. Does your firewall work as expected? * netatalk. Can you do as expected with those MAC's? * ntp. Does this thing actually work in a secure manner? * openldap. Here is a lot of room for improvement. Feel free to be part of it. * perl. Do those modules work? * postfix. This package has taken a giant leap forward. Did we miss anything on the way or can you use the full potential of this powerful tool? * postgresql. The joy of some. Do we deliver what you need? * rp-pppoe. Does your ADSL still work? * stunnel. Can you tunnel those connections? * swup. Does it still do miracles or are you all using apt-get by now? * xinetd. Can you do all those nice configurations? Let us know. tsl-discuss at trustix dot org is the place, and we are always open. You can find it on or on your favorite mirror. This release features: * Improved package selection.
